A Fresh Approach to Creature Design
Silk is an interactive, generative design tool that lives at http://weavesilk.com/. It interpolates off the speed and path of your strokes to generate unique shapes that you may not have created yourself explicitly by hand. This offers concept artists a fresh approach to designing creatures.
Silk as a base
In this tutorial, Dave Pasciuto uses Silk to generate a foundation for his creature designs. Then he uses Photoshop to fulfill the design, drawing line art over the Silk foundation, followed by a value and texture pass, resulting in 3 unique creature / monster busts.
